Spotting a scam

Most people on Yebo are genuine. These are the signs that someone is not.

Warning signs in a listing

• The rent or price is far below everything comparable in the area
• The photos look like a catalogue, a hotel, or somewhere clearly not in Uganda
• The description avoids naming a specific location
• The same photos appear on another listing under a different name

Warning signs in how someone behaves

• They are "abroad" or "travelling" and cannot show you the property
• They push you to pay a deposit, viewing fee or "reservation" before you see anything
• They want payment to a personal mobile money number, and want it now
• They ask you to move the conversation off Yebo immediately
• They send a link asking you to sign in to "confirm" your account, or ask for your password or mobile money PIN
• They claim to be from Yebo and ask you to pay a fee to view, reserve or "unlock" a property, or offer to approve a listing faster for money

• Do not pay anything — see Never pay before viewing
• Stop replying
• Report the listing or user. Our trust and safety team aims to respond within four hours.

Yebo staff will never ask for your password or your mobile money PIN.
