Never pay before viewing
The single rule that prevents most property fraud.

Do not send money for a property you have not visited in person. Almost every property fraud we see depends on the victim paying before viewing.
Before you pay anything
- Visit the property. In person, in daylight. If you cannot go, send someone you trust.
- Confirm who you are dealing with. Ask for identification and check it against the name on the listing.
- Check they have the right to let or sell. Ask to see proof of ownership or written authority to act for the owner.
- Get it in writing. Any deposit or fee should come with a signed receipt naming the person and the property.
Pay safely
- Avoid cash where you can
- Never send money to a personal mobile money number for a deposit before you have viewed and signed
- Keep every receipt, message and transaction reference
