Why the name on your ID must match your account

How we compare the two names, and what to do if yours differ.

Last updated 11 August 2026

We compare the name on your National ID with the name on your Yebo account. If they do not match, we cannot verify you.

We allow for normal variation

Our check is deliberately flexible. It accepts:

  • Names in a different order, such as "Mukasa John" against "John Mukasa"
  • A missing or extra middle name
  • Initials instead of a full given name
  • Minor spelling and accent differences

What it will not accept

A completely different name — for example verifying with a relative's, spouse's or employer's ID. The person listing the property must be the person verified.

If your name is genuinely different

If you have changed your name legally, or your account has an old or misspelt name:

  1. Correct your name in your profile first, so it matches your ID.
  2. Then submit verification again.

If your ID itself is out of date, contact us before uploading and we will tell you what we can accept.
